Cave of the Mounds Visitor Center
We had the honor of restoring and expanding the Cave of the Mounds Visitor Center. Preserving the original architecture while expanding a building can be a complex task, but it’s rewarding to see the finished result blend the old with the new seamlessly.
To expand their usable space, we extended the exterior walls to the edge of the roof overhang. This adjustment enabled us to repurpose the stone pillars, which were previously half outside, as striking interior focal points. By incorporating natural elements and colors, we preserved the essential earthy aesthetic of the building. The addition of windows enhances the open, airy atmosphere and provides panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape.
This project included a comprehensive upgrade with new siding, roofing, windows, exterior doors, finishes, and more. As you browse through the photos, you'll see striking comparisons between the original 1979 construction and our 2024 remodel. It's remarkable to witness such continuity in the building process over 45 years. We're grateful for this incredible opportunity and hope that both staff and visitors will enjoy this revitalized space for many years to come.
